There's a motha f#$%n snake in my motha f%$#n office!

While we do live in one of the least developed countries in Southern Africa, I would be lying if I stereotypically conjured up images of living within "deepest darkest Africa where naked primordial warriors wandered through the streets beating drums
and waving spears while chasing wild boar into the dusty sunset"

In fact, we work in the capital city, in which parts of it are relatively developed. There are actual roads, buildings and shops. The threat of being attacked by rabied lions and trampled by a heard of elephants in town are zero to none. (However, on occasion, you do see a wandering hyena at night, or a few wild monkeys and porcupines roaming through town.)

Today, the security guard at our office called me over to look at something while I was walking by. One the ground there was a dead snake severed in half lying in the dust. Mr. Ngoni told me that the snack was sitting on the roof rafters in his office, about 2 ft. from his head. When we saw it, he slowly backed out of his office, grabbed a bamboo pole, and killed the snake. He told me it was a "black Mamba" in which I politely nodded. In my head, thinking that maybe he called all snakes black mamba's, as surely a black mamba, one of the fastest, and most dangerous snakes in Africa, fatal to man, couldn't possibly be in our office. Returning to my desk, I googled "black mamba", and sure enough the photos on the internet (see photo above, from internet) were exactly the type of snake that was in our office. To quote Samuel L. Jackson, there was a "motha f$#%n snake in my motha F%#@n office". Phewww.

Cheers,
;) tess

ps - don't worry Mom, there are no snakes in my immediate office, as we have a closed off roof... although the roaches do drive me mad.
